Fort Apache, here comes the Calvary!

This 1948 film directed by the legendary John Ford and starring John Wayne and Henry Fonda still stands today as one of the best westerns ever made. Nobody leads a Calvary column like John Wayne. He’s hands down my favorite actor!

Black folks need to look in the mirror and be honest with themselves

Look there goes the racist!

His name used to be Barry Goldwater, then the name changed to Ronald Reagan. After that he became George H.W. Bush, then George W. Bush.

From there the concept expanded and the racists became the “predatory lender” or the “Exxon Mobil”

Fast forward to today and the new racists are the Tea Party.

That’s all Democrat politicians like Maxine Waters have been saying to the ‘hood for the past 50 years and all the while schools in the inner city continue to fail. Black dropouts rates continue to increase. Illegitimate birth rate is over 70%.

But, hey as long as you let these Black Democrats tell you who the racists are and you continue to fall for the game and wonder why the fuck nothing changes, then who in all honesty are the ones sticking it up yo ass, the Tea Party or the Congressional Black Caucus?

Calling it Quits

*That's right, the drawing board...*

You may recall from my recent post that I've been pretty active in the dating game as of late and that I was dating one gentleman in particular a little more frequently than the others. Well after a not so subtle push from said gentleman to consider moving up to relationship status I decided to call it quits. You see, while this guy treated me great, I just wasn't feeling it. He had an arrogant side that rubbed me the wrong way among a few other things that got on my nerves.

...And so...
It's back to the drawing board.

To be honest I'm a little tired of the whole online dating thing. That was fun for summer when I didn't have a lot going on, but I'm kind of over going on a million 1st dates only to be disappointed by what I'm greeted with. I'd prefer to meet a guy under natural circumstances that allow for a pre-determination of his weirdo status, but unfortunately life doesn't always allot for such meetings.

Either way, I could use a break from the world of men and I think a weekend away at Lake Powell might be just the ticket. I'll let you know how it goes.

p.s. There is a whole new batch of first years roaming around campus and a few cuties in the mix. Maybe this year won't be so bad after all?

Mass brawl at Rye Playland after Muslim women are banned from going on rides unless they remove their head scarves hijabs

This is the second time I heard of in the New York area of a Muslim woman intentionally causing an incident that wasn’t necessary.

The other situation occurred at a skating rink where a Muslim woman was asked to remove her head scarf or wear a helmet over it to be allowed to skate. She refused both option and cried religious persecution.

That was a bunch of bull then, and it was a bunch of bull yesterday. Some Muslims purposely provoke these kinds incidents so they can play the victim.

This had nothing to do with religion, it was a liability issue for Rye Playland putting others at risk if a scarf goes flying and gets tangled somewhere causing serious injury.

Daily Mail

A theme park was forced to shut its gates to visitors when a mass brawl broke out after Muslim women were banned from rides unless they removed their headscarves. Two park rangers were hospitalized and 15 people were arrested in the scuffle at Rye Playland in New York yesterday. The theme park was crowded with around 6,000 visitors. Roughly 3,000 were in a Muslim tour group celebrating a holiday at the end of Ramadan.

The incident reportedly started when women wearing Muslim hijab scarves tried to get on rides banning any head coverings. Scuffles broke out after women became furious at not being allowed on rides with their religious head covering and started to argue with park staff, before rangers stepped. The park entrance was closed for two hours as the fighting escalated.

Ola Salem, 17, of Brooklyn, New York, was wearing a headscarf and said she was denied entry onto a ride with her eight-year-old sister.

'They said no because my of my "headgear",' she told the New York Times. 'I said: "It’s not my headgear, it’s my religion".'

However park officials said the ban was for safety reasons and they respect their customers' religious beliefs. 'Everybody got mad, everybody got upset,' Amr Khater, of Brooklyn, told The Journal News. 'It’s our holiday. Why would you do this to us?'

Warren Buffett’s company Berkshire Hathaway owes back taxes since 2002. Smells like hypocrisy to me

First of a let me say I admire Buffett very much. I believe in his method of investing in stocks, otherwise known a low-value investing. I think it’s the soundest way to invest and my portfolio is based on it.

However, when it comes to politics Warren Buffett is like a split personality. He openly once said that people shouldn’t benefit from being born in the “lucky sperm club” referring to heirs born to wealthy families and their need to pay higher inheritance taxes.

What makes Warren a hypocrite is that he doesn’t mind benefiting from low taxes rates that helped grow his businesses but then he has no problem wanting to change it for others after he accumulates his great wealth. Like most Liberal/Progressives I think Buffett suffers from deep guilt over his wealth and his calls for rich people paying more taxes is his way of doing penance.

New York Post

This one’s truly, uh ... rich: Billionaire Warren Buffett says folks like him should have to pay more taxes -- but it turns out his firm, Berkshire Hathaway, hasn’t paid what it’s already owed for years. That’s right: As Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson notes, the company openly admits that it owes back taxes since as long ago as 2002.

“We anticipate that we will resolve all adjustments proposed by the US Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) for the 2002 through 2004 tax years ... within the next 12 months,” the firm’s annual report says.

It also cites outstanding tax issues for 2005 through 2009.

Obvious question: If Buffett really thinks he and his “mega-rich friends” should pay higher taxes, why doesn’t his firm fork over what it already owes under current rates?

Likely answer: He cares more about shilling for President Obama -- who’s practically made socking “millionaires and billionaires” his re-election theme song -- than about kicking in more himself.

Buffett’s free to back Obama, of course.

And if his firm wants to keep its tax bill low, well, that’s its right, too.

But it would be nice if this “pro-tax-hike” tycoon were a bit more honest about it.

Memeorandum

Monday, August 29, 2011

I am writing this post because of a conversation I had with a comrade some time ago. He was saying that we (communist) shouldn't support a certain group (the Maoist Communist Party of China) because "they support capitalism." What he was referring to was point ten of their basic political program where it states:

"All privately owned enterprises and companies that do not rely on selling out the state, opportunism or gross exploitation, and do not harm the welfare of the public, can carry on running as before. At the same time, the law of the state protects the right of every person who wishes to engage in small-scale private businesses and will provide help when necessary."

But if one actually reads the language we can see that this is not supporting capitalism as much as recognizing that you can't destroy every business over night in a revolution. Also this was a moot point for two reasons; one being that the CPC has already opened up corporatist capitalism and two is answered by the MCPC which states in point one of their basic political program:

"We call for the overthrow of every big and small capitalist-roader and corrupt bureaucratic elements. We shall remove the capitalist constitution and law that has been imposed upon the peoples of China by the traitorous revisionist ruling bloc. We shall establish people’s supervisory councils, so that everyone takes part in the management and supervision of the state, army and government, so that the people are guaranteed to become the real rulers of the country."

They go on to mention this in point four: "People’s communes will be restored in the countryside. Concretely for each particular village, we shall respect the choices of the masses, those who wish to embark on the collectivist path the state shall give support, those who wish to keep things as they are will also be allowed to do so."(1) (2)

So what we see here (and I think is correct) is that small businesses would be allowed under socialism (not allowed to make profit under communism obviously.)

To kind of get to the main point here; some communist mistake the realization that small businesses will exist under socialism for a communist supporting capitalism. Allowing small businesses to exist is not supporting or encouraging capitalism. We would dismantle corporations that exploit the masses for the profit of the rich. We would nationalize the major corporations that use natural resources to make their profit. But companies that pay fair wages and are generally good to their workers, there would be no reason to destroy those companies under socialism.

In fact sometimes small businesses have an interest in proletarian revolution. Some small business owners make just enough to pay their shops rent and live off the rest. This is not to say that small business owners would stay on the side of socialist construction after a revolution, but with anti-corporate language that communist use it would certainly attract some small business supporters and small business owners. So theoretically some small businesses would initially side with the socialist revolution.

But what about after the initial stages? Where profit of any kind is starting to be shunned and exploitation is seen as a crime? Would these same small shop owners stay with in the revolution or would they succumb to reactionary elements?

My partner and I have a little disagreement here on this issue of small businesses and small business owners, their class orientation and their would be roles in social revolution.

She believes that the small business owners are usually among the proletarian class and do not make enough actual profits to be considered a bourgeoisie. Though she admits that a small portion do hold petty bourgeoisie ideologies she says that most small business owners are only trying to make ends meet and want to survive doing what they love doing. For example she believes that most people start small businesses because they wanna do what they love for a living such as if a person loves flowers they will open a flower shop. If someone loves cooking they will start up a restaurant etc.

She also believes in what I call her "nine million dollar theory" that is to say that any and almost every small business owner doesn't go into business to sell their business and make a lot of money. But if a chain restaurant or walmart offered to buy a persons business for nine million dollars, who wouldn't sell their company and retire early? Almost everyone including communist would take the nine million dollars. I personally would take that money and start a self sustaining commune wherever there was no land taxes.

She thinks that most small business owners would have every reason to side with a socialist/communist revolution. If for no other reason then that they wouldn't have to worry about competing with today's walmarts and other major corporations. Because these corporations would be destroyed or nationalized eventually, leaving small businesses secure from corporate competition. I agree with this point.

My major disagreement is that while some or even most people who start small businesses do it because they are following their passion. I believe that there is a significant amount of the small business owners who start a business strictly to become rich and who aspire to become the new walmart or McDonalds. I believe a sizable portion do it to become members of the capitalist class so that they can make money of the backs of workers that they exploit for their labor.

Her points and counter points (not all listed here) make it hard for me to make my own concrete analysis of the small businesses role as a whole in the occurrence of a communist led revolution. I think it would be important to have a "business by business" policy to research and feel out how the business owners feel towards proletarian revolution and emancipation before determining their possible role in a revolution.

I think at this point it goes without saying that there would have to be small businesses after a socialist revolution. I might even say that it would be useful propagandizing in support of small businesses before and during a revolution to gain support of both the small business and people who support small businesses. In my area the fight for small businesses are very popular among the population. Walmart in my area has been battling legally to expand to a supercenter for almost ten years. But do to petitions and other actions by the local population it has not been able to expand yet. It is amazing the level of resistance that my local walmart has been confronted with by the local population in defense of the local small businesses.

I'm not disillusioned that all small business owners are communist or want a socialist revolution. I'm just stating that if we got to the point to where the proletarian masses were revolting there would be a number of small business owners that would feel compelled to side with our cause. After and during the revolution undoubtedly some would side with the reactionary forces, but I find this question interesting. What role would small businesses and small business owners play in a communist led revolution? Both during and after?

I for one believe in what the MCPC states in point ten of their basic political program and I think that this is the most realistic stance a party or group can take during socialist construction.

Far Lefty blog, Wonkette, posts heavily edited video of Michele Bachman and lies “Who likes White people?”

The bits of dirt and grime that collects under your shoes write articles for Wonkette. When they’re not busy sipping wine and eating cheese, they contemplate on how they can sleaze conservatives like Michele Bachman.

Thankfully, The Last Tradition is around to set the record straight and point out the dirty tricks the Left loves to play. Look at this video posted on Wonkette who says Michele Bachman said, “Who likes White people?

Even a person with a 90% hearing deficiency can tell that Michele Bachman did not say what Wonkette clamed.

Here’s the full version:

That’s right you heard correctly. Michele Bachmann said, “Who likes “wet” people?” And she said in context people waiting through the rains to her her speack.

Yahoo News

An edited video that makes it appear as if Republican presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann asked an Iowa crowd, "Who likes white people?" is quickly spreading around the Web. However, if you watch the full, unedited version of the video, it's clear the Minnesota congresswoman said something very different.

Bachmann made a campaign stop at the Midwest Spirit Christian Music Festival on Aug. 5 in West Des Moines to give a speech about her Christian faith. It was raining during her the appearance, so when Bachmann took the stage, she asked, "Who likes wet people?" referring to the still-damp masses who stuck around for her talk.

"Yeah, that's right. Because we have the God of the winds and the rain don't we?" she said immediately after--a key phrasing that was edited out of the shorter clip. "We serve a mighty God."

Nice try Wonkette, but you can’t fool The Last Tradition.

Video: Russian Dmitry Starodubtsev pole snaps while pole vaulting at the 2011 World Championships

Maybe his pole was made in China?

Ology.som

In spite of the extremely erotic headline, this is just a cool video. It's even cooler since no one got hurt. Does that make it less cool?

Dmitry Starodubtsev is a Russian pole vaulter who was competing at the IAAF World Championships in South Korea when his pole snapped as he was attempting to clear 5.75 meters.

No dice.

Behind the scenes Democrats are considering dumping Obama

The whispers are already reaching mania levels of some Democrats questioning “off the record” that Barack Obama should not seek the Democrat nomination for the best interests of the party.

“He’s killing us!” said a New York Democrat and former Obama supporter, “Obama needs to a Lyndon Johnson before he drags the rest of us down like an anchor.”

A recent Gallup poll has the president approval rating at 38% and falling. If the economy doesn’t show robust improvement relatively soon, Obama has no hope of staying in the White House. So, Democrats have to ask themselves: Do will continue to support a radioactive president, or do find a new leader?

I wonder if somebody has Hillary Clinton on speed dial.
