Thank you Lenny...I don't think I could have said it better myself.
The NFL lockout looks like its coming to an end. It's been a really rough time for NFL fans. Those who bought cans of chili on sale after the last Superbowl were worried about whether they wasted that $1.19 on beans that might not be used until after the 2012 expiration date. Man, it was dark days there for a while when I realized that I might only be paying for regular cable and not the extra $50 a month I have been accustomed to paying for NFL Sunday Ticket. But fear not fellow tight pant and pig skin lovers (see where I got the title from now, clever right, yah I know) there will be football this year...maybe...I think...that's what ESPN tells me.
But was there ever any doubt about the season really? This isn't a league who struggles from year to year like the NHL or NBA, this league makes money, and lots of it.
What my concern now isn't free agency - although if Bush goes to the Rams you might have to talk me off a ledge, not a high ledge, but a ledge high enough for me to at least break a wrist or leg when I jump - My concern now is the quality of football that we're going to get this fall. If you've been following your favourite players on Twitter you'd be concerned too. There are going to be a lot of unfit players and players unfamiliar with their new systems come August/September (and with 500 unsigned players, there will be a lot of players that need to learn new systems you can bank on that). Things might start to get a little ugly. We'll know soon too. Players will start pulling muscles and running the wrong routes right off the bat.
But, I guess I shouldn't complain about the quality of the game. I'd rather have a few dropped balls because of missed timing than a season without a shirtless Jeremy Shockey.
Please end this lockout this weekend NFL. Make a girl happy. And while I'm on it a little warning...Cincinnati, I know you are one of the teams who are grumbling about the richness of the possible new deal and the minimum spending threshold. I already hate your football team, don't make me take it out on your city. Mike Brown, you watch yourself or we're not going to have a good year.
