Let the Season Begin

New red fire trucks..I mean shuttle buses arrived, horses have been shod for the trail, raft guides are tan with practice trips complete, kayaks are out of storage, resort staff have arrived with plenty of drama in tow, and days off have been tossed to the side...yep...as of June 19th...everything is open for the summer! For the most part, things are off to a grand start with a few "bumps" in the road here in there as new staff members are trained and people get into the swing of things in Stehekin. The weather is awesome with cool night and warm days, most people could do without the wind though given a choice. Steven and I have been working quite a bit, but we should settle into a nice routine soon. This weekend is looking promising for a day off together on Sunday, now that is exciting! Have no doubt, the bakery will be our first stop of the day. Summer work looks the same for us as last season. I am working in the kiosk 3-4 days a week and squeezing in riding lessons for kids when I can. The other two days I will be at the ranch taking guests on day rides....so fun to be around the Fjord horses. Steven is working at the landing on maintenance only a few days a week this summer with the rest of his time at the corrals and/or the ranch. He prefers it that way! Looks like we are going to be packing horses again tomorrow...this time to set up the tent to tent site at Bridge Creek. It is fun to spend time together that way, even if it is work, as long as all things go smoothly and all horses decide to keep their loads centered...on their back that is! Last Monday, we gathered some horses in the morning and packed a load into Flat Creek for some volunteer trail crew workers. It was a great day for it too...kinda cool and overcast. We left the house around 6:00 in the morning and returned by 6:00 or so in the evening. Everything went smoothly...which always makes the day nice when working with horses. So now our week continues on, just like the season....
