Hurricane Irene: At this hour according to WAVY

Here a timeline of where Hurricane Irene has been thus far.



PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A timeline of updates as Hurricane Irene heads toward the East Coast:



9:05 p.m. - From Don Slater: Tidal flooding in Sewell's Point, Va. is beginning to level off.



9:00 p.m. - A curfew will be in effect for Newport News starting at 11 p.m. Aug. 27 until 6 a.m. Aug. 28. This restriction excludes emergency personnel.



8:45 p.m. - The Rushmere water system in Isle of Wight has been restored after losing power and pressure, but residents must boil their water





8:15 p.m. - Storm related death reported outside of Richmond, Va.



8:00 p.m. - Gov. Bob McDonnell and Emergency Management Officials hold a press conference from Richmond on Hurricane Irene.



7:30 p.m. - NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Hurricane Irene is now 35 miles southeast of Norfolk.



7:25 p.m. - From Andy Fox in Nags Head: The causeway between Nags Head and Manteo is flooded, the Roanoke Sound is coming over the banks. Only heavy military vehicles can get there.



7:20 p.m. - Sandbridge Road in Virginia Beach closed because of flooding.



7:10 p.m. - Route 175, Chincoteague Causeway, in Accomack County is closed because of storm surge.



7:05 p.m. - Route 17 at the James River Bridge in Isle of Wight County is closed due to flooding on the access roadway.



7 p.m. - Virginia State Police release details of a deadly car accident that occured in Brunswick County. The vehicle was traveling south on Route



644 when the top of a large tree snapped and landed on the vehicle.



6:50 p.m. - The James City County website is down from power outages, but the emergency operations center is not affected. Call 757-875-2424 for emergencies.



6:32 p.m. - The City of Suffolk issues a curfew beginning at 8 p.m. and ending tomorrow at 8 a.m. For a listing of all imposed curfews click here .



6:10 p.m. - GOLDSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Police: Child dies in wreck at NC intersection after Hurricane Irene knocks out traffic lights.



5:35 p.m. - The City of Portsmouth has announced a curfew for residents from 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Only emergency or essential personnel will be allowed to be on the roads. The curfew also applies to pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The curfew will be in effect until further notice.



5:30 p.m. - From Andy Fox: The North Carolina Department of Transportation says you can not get to Manteo from the Outer Banks. There is a power line on the roads at Whalebone Junction.



5:05 p.m. - The City of Hampton is imposing a curfew for residents. No one, other than emergency personnel, should be out between 11 p.m. tonight and 6 a.m. tomorrow. The curfew will be in effect until the severe weather conditions subside.
