Nadja Benaissa German Pop Star Failed to Tell 4 Lovers She’s HIV Positive

The UK Telegraph reports that Nadja Benaissa, who was a member of the popular German girl band No Angels, told a court she was "sorry with all my heart" and admitted being "careless" and not disclosing her condition.

The 28-year-old is facing five charges of attempted grievous bodily harm for sleeping with four men without protection

She is also accused of one count of grievous bodily harm after one of the men became infected with HIV, which she denies.

Yesterday, she appeared in court in Darmstadt, western Germany, to give evidence.

The court heard how the singer – who won her place in the band through the reality show Popstars – had known she was HIV positive since 1999.

"I am sorry with all my heart," said the mother-of-one. "The last thing I wanted was for my partner to get infected."

Miss Benaissa, who is half German half Moroccan, became part of No Angels, the equivalent of the UK group Girls Aloud, in 2000 which went on to become one of Germany's most popular bands, selling more than five million records before breaking up in 2003.

UPDATE: Verdict in for HIV Positive Singer Nadja Benaissa

The verdict is in for singer Nadja Benaissa.

A German court found her guilty on the charge that she infected a partner with HIV, after knowingly having unprotected intercourse with her ex-boyfriend in spite of her HIV positive status. Her ex-boyfriend was not aware that she was carrying the virus.

Benaissa will not serve time in jail for her conviction. According to the Associated Press, she has been given a two-year suspended sentence and 300 hours of community service. Both the prosecutor and the defense attorney are pleased with the outcome.

Prosecutor Peter Liesenfeld said that given that the acts were committed when the singer was still quite young, and in the midst of a “turbulent” life, the suspended sentence is appropriate.

Defense attorney, Oliver Wallasch, is happy that Benaissa was able to avoid jail time. He also said that his client had stated that any type of community service that would be imposed upon her would be “justified.”

What the hell kind of justice is that?

What example does it set?

It's okay to infect somebofy with Aids and not pay a heavy price?
