Don’t count out Perry just yet in Iowa and South Carolina

I was very early in my criticism of Rick Perry’s debating acumen before the rest of the media caught on. Well, let me beat the media once again. It’s way too premature to declare his demise from front-runner status and like Bill Clinton can remake himself into the “Comeback Kid”.

There’s still plenty of time to right the ship. Although if he doesn’t significantly kick it up in the remaining debates, then he has a problem. But, you best believe with the future of the country at stake, Perry may have what it takes.

Peter Hamby scoops that Rick Perry, after the rockiest week of his nascent presidential campaign, moved to sooth activists in Iowa and South Carolina about portions of his record:

The Perry campaign conducted two "tele-town halls," dialing into the homes of targeted GOP voters across both states and asking them to hold for the governor, according to a South Carolina Republican source who received one of the calls.

Perry was introduced on the South Carolina call by former South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson, Perry's campaign chairman in the state.

The candidate immediately set about defending his record on three issues that have come to define his campaign in recent weeks: immigration, Social Security, and his 2007 executive order mandating that school girls be vaccinated against the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause cervical cancer.
